Our First Family Holiday (Corfu, Greece)

This post is a long time coming. We've been back from our holiday for over a week now and life has just got the better of me. We had the most AMAZING time on our first holiday as a three. It was so lovely for all three of us to spend some time together in an extended moment that wasn't just the revolving weekend, for baby girl to bond with her daddy even more - those two are thick as thieves - and for us all to chill out and relax.

I took so many photos. It was lovely to go through them all to re-live the holiday. If you follow me on social media you would have seen some pictures that I posted whilst we were away and I wanted to dedicate a blog post to our wonderful holiday.

Ahhhh take me back there again!

Our Holiday

We went to Corfu, Greece for 5 nights.

The weather was between 27 and 30 degrees while we were there and there was no rain. The Australian in me thought it would have been a bit hotter but the mum in me was happy as it was just enough for baby girl to handle. She didn't mind the heat at all.

We stayed in a small village called Gouvia. It was beautiful. The village was quaint but enough for us. We didn't even venture into the main town of Corfu, we didn't need to.

The beach by our hotel was lovely and quipped with umbrellas and sunbeds (it was a rocky one so beach shoes were needed).

Off the main street, we followed a path past the local day spa and down these steps found a beautiful part of the beach that was blocked off from the main one. It was a struggle to get the buggy up and down the steps but so worth it.

It was secluded and quiet. It had gorgeous sun shades and we always got a sunbed. It even had a little beach bar.

As a family we spent two afternoons at this part of the beach. This was baby girls first beach experience. We created some wonderful memories.

The village had some really nice restaurants, bars, shops and taverns and the local people were absolutely lovely.

The Food

We stayed at an all inclusive and were travelling on our budget, so most of the meals were at our hotel. We were really impressed. The variety was great and the food was yummy. The restaurant staff were constantly replenishing the buffet with fresh food.

The breakfast buffet was a treat. This is what breakfast normally looked like for J.

And this for me (I always prefer continental)

The lunch and dinner buffet was filled with salads, breads, cheeses, meats, pastas, Greek and European dishes. They even had a Mexican theme one night.

Being a vegetarian in Greece can be hard as they are such big meat eaters so eating at the buffet for me was great. Some of my favourite meals are bits thrown together so it was perfect for me.

J made the most of his meat on tap. Although I try and cook it for him, I'm probably not very good!

There was a large range of different desserts every day and always fresh fruit available.

We consumed a few too many of these Tequila Sunrise's which were part of the all inclusive package.

The wine in the restaurant was good considering it was part of the all inclusive option. For some reason when I got it from the bar it just didn't taste right so I ended up avoiding it from there.

We found this lovely sports bar in Gouvia's village called Silver Nights. They do fabulous cocktails. My favourite was their Mojitos. I watched them pick the mint to order from their garden.

Souvlaki without the gyro. Delicious! This was a quick lunch time snack for us when we were in the village.

The Hotel

We stayed at Aquis Park Hotel. It's a 3 star hotel with a very high standard. When booking the holiday I was trying to see how I could make our budget work for a 4 or 5 star but when I found anything that looked OK, it failed my Trip Advisor test. Aquis Park Hotel has a rating of 4 out of 5 on Trip Advisor and having stayed there I agree with the reviews. We were very happy.

The hotel is child friendly. There were ramps throughout even though it was split level so we were able to take the push chair anywhere. There was a microwave in the restaurant so we were able to heat up baby girl's pouches whenever we wanted. There was no kettle in our room which was a bit of a pain as we had to come downstairs to heat up baby girls milk. Luckily this was Daddy's job for her 5am feeds.

Facilities: Large outdoor pool, freshwater children's pool, children's play areas, WIFI access around the hotel (sometimes this was great and other times it cut in and out), 24 hour reception, all inclusive restaurants and bars, babysitting (extra charge), pool towels (for a refundable deposit), gift and convenience shop where you can purchase souvenirs and refreshments (the prices were great).

The rooms are basic but perfectly suitable and clean. We were given a twin room. Initially we were going to see if we could get the room changed but we double checked the booking and it said twin/ double. We were comfortable and the beds were pushed up right next to each other so we decided it would be too much of a hassle to move and left it. The hotel provided us with a travel cot (as pictured) which seemed fine, but as we had brought our own we asked them to take it away.

I loved the balcony. It got some good daylight sun, the view was gorgeous and it felt so tranquil out there.

The bathroom was fine. It came with a shower over bath so we were able to bath baby girl. It came with only basic soaps so we brought all of our own toiletries.

The room was cleaned and made up every days as well as towels being changed.

The outdoor swimming pool was fabulous. It's surrounded by gardens and a huge grassy area so we could always find a private spot and a sunbed, even though the pool area does get busy during the day. We spent some day time family time here and I also spent some tanning time by myself during baby girl's naps.

We would often head out to the pool area after dinner with a cocktail while the sun went down. We had some great family times by the pool at this time of day.

I just had to share this picture I took from our balcony on our last night

The lady in the hotel shop fell in love with baby girl. She was so sad to see us leave, on our last night she took pictures with us ad gave baby girl this dolphin.

Although we were sad to leave, it was nice to come home. Baby girl sure was excited to be surrounded by all of her own toys again.

  1. Looks like a perfect holiday! Did you take toddler food or just wing it? I love your OH's plate of meat. My partner doesn't eat meat so that's exactly what our plates look like at buffets x

    1. Haha yeah this is the cut down version of the post. I could go on about our trip for days ;)
You're right, it must be so strange to just be picked up and flown to a strange country where nothing is familiar and routine is different. Baby girl was very good with the adjustment. Thanks for stopping by x
