Review: Bottomless Brunch At Avenue Mayfair

On Saturday I had a baby free day and a catch up with some of my lady friends. We decided we would do brunch.

OOTD - The End Long kimono | Dorothy Perkins trousers | Zara handbag | Office shoes

When I visited New York in 2007 brunch was THE thing to do. Brunch in New York was an institution. A weekend activity that was so much more than combining breakfast and lunch because you'd slept in. Brunch was a time to fill your bellies with amazing food, drink and a time to catch up with friends. Brunch was (and still is) even worthy of its own menu combing the perfect mix of things like eggs, pancakes and some more substantial lunch type dishes. Back in Melbourne it still wasn't a thing and then when I arrived in London in 2010 it's not something I ever noticed.

But now all of a sudden it seems to be a thing in London. It's what all the cool kids are doing. Brunch menus are popping up all over the place. What's really cool is that a lot of places are also offering a bottomless brunch option meaning you can enjoy some fantastic food and have your drinks topped up all afternoon. In my books this makes the perfect combination for a lady date.

My friends and I made a booking at Avenue in Mayfair for our Bottomless Brunch. Avenue is located in the fancy part of London, but also pays tribute to a Manhattan style brunch with a menu filled with American cuisine.

You can choose 2 courses for £23.50 or 3 courses for £26.00 and for an additional £15.00 per person you can have either unlimited prosecco or bloody marys. We decided on 2 courses which was more than enough food for us. I quite fancied mimosas rather than just prosecco. My request was not a problem for them at all and as well as keeping my glass of prosecco topped up at all times they also made sure there was a little jug of orange juice topped up so I could combine the two.

Now if I was thinking about taking good photos my menu selection would have probably been different because there was some stunning looking dishes. But let me tell you, I had declared Saturday a cheat day and the carb cravings were real!

Mac and cheese - simple but delicious.

Pancakes - They normally come with the option of bacon or berries on the side but I just fancied traditional pancakes with maple syrup. I'm never one to want to exclusively stick to the menu. I'm probably a waiters and a chefs worst nightmare!

The menu has a not only has great selection of eggs, pancakes, and other breakfast type things like granola and oats. It also offers some more hearty options like burgers, and mac and cheese. It also has an incredible dessert selection.

The service was incredible, the food was delicious, the decor was stunning (especially the centrepiece created with wine glasses) and the waiters were very attentive to all of our needs.

Combine a restaurant, jam packed with mostly women who are drinking copious amounts of prosecco and you would expect it to be pretty noisy which it was. My girlfriends and I huddled up closely, used our outdoor voices and had to repeat sentences a few times but it was all part of the experience and not a big deal for us.

I have a feeling this is only the beginning of my love affair with bottomless brunches in London....

  2. Yes, brunch!!! I'm not from NYC but brunch was something I missed so much when I first moved to the UK. Any meal that's early in the day that doesn't frown upon drinking Mimosas...sign me up! That wine glass piece is amazing.

  3. Ooo this looks so fab! I totally agree that brunch has suddenly become the thing to do! We've done brunch a lot but it was mostly out of accident by not eating brekkie so having an early big lunch! But a couple of weekends ago we did indeed meet friends for brunch in an American style diner! It was fab :) Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
