Last week I asked you what you were going to be when you grew up. You told me "two".
This is a question that crosses my mind all the time. As your parent I think it's only natural to dream of where you may go in your life. Your daddy wants you to be a doctor or a lawyer. I have a sneaking suspicion you have the potential to make a very fine actress. You most definitely will love to sing. I don't know many two year olds that can recite every single nursery rhyme the way you can. And you do it in perfect rhythm and key.
Most of all both me and your daddy pray that you are happy. The older we get, the more we realise that's what life is really all about. Having family and being happy.
You told me you would be two when you grow up. Big dreams aside, that reminds me just how simple life is right now. As we grow, the world becomes so so complicated. Yet your pure innocence sometimes just makes me want to wrap you up in cotton wool and never expose you to anything that may pollute your mind.
Yesterday, my darling girl, you turned two. You were so excited for your birthday.
We held a little party for you on Saturday. You were so happy to have your nearest and dearest around you. Celebrating with you. Loving you. Spoiling you. Your grandmother from Australia even came all the way to be with you. There was pure joy in your face all day.
The inner party planner in me came out in full force and I threw you an ice cream theme party. It was so much fun putting together your ice cream decor and cake. It was all so very worth it when we had 45 minutes to hang out before the first guest arrived and all you wanted to do was sit in your high chair, next to the table and admire everything.
You were such a good girl, you wanted so badly to eat your cake right then and there but you knew we had to wait until later until everyone was here to sing you happy birthday.
Sing we did. The loudest voice during your 'Happy Birthday' song was yours. I have never seen such a confident child joining in with the chorus of their own birthday song. It made me so happy.
Two years ago you made me a mama, J a daddy and all three of us a very happy family. You were born at 2.10am. I still remember that feeling. The moment I laid eyes on you and everything changed. Life has been so totally blessed ever since.
Happy 2nd Birthday my darling girl.
