A Day With: Love From Mim

A Day With: Is a fun series I am running on the blog. I love 'day in the life' style mummy posts. They are fun to read and interesting to see the way different mums manage their days. I think all mummies are superheroes  We all have our own challenges with managing our lives and running our households, but we get through it and that should be celebrated.
Today's guest is the wonderful Mim from Love From Mim. Mim is a Brit living in my home country Australia. Mim blogs about life in Oz with her husband and two children - a gorgeous three year old girl and a beautiful baby boy who is nearly one. Mim is the epitome of strength. Late last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer and through her blog she bravely shares her story. She is kicking cancer's butt!
I love reading about Mim's day. She certainly lives a very busy life. I know first hand how challenging it can be to manage working from home for yourself and balancing home life and she seems to have it figured out very nicely. I can so relate with Mim in regards to catching up with overseas family and friends at awkward times. The time difference between UK and Australia can be challenging.

If I’d written about this 6 months, ago, it would be a very different story indeed! In November 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have been undergoing surgery and treatment since then. Since treatment started, I left my job and have since been working for myself as a freelance writer. So here is a day in my life, these days!
7.30am – my very kind husband gets up before me most mornings when the kids wake up which is anything between 6.30-7.30am. He gets them out of bed, teeth cleaned and dressed and ready for the day and by that time, I’m usually up and joining them for breakfast.
8.00am – Depending on the day of the week, either the kids will be at day care or home with me for the day. If it’s a day care day, I’m normally sat at my desk from 8.30am until lunchtime where I’ll be checking emails, writing blog posts, completing freelance work and pitching for new work. Then a lunch break and back to it until 4.00pm.
8.30am – on a non-day care day, I’ll finish getting myself ready while the kids finish their breakfast – usually with CBeebies shows on in the background. It feels like CBeebies is always on in the background – of my mind at the very least! It’s a good job I love Peppa Pig.
10.00am – when we’re finally all ready, we’ll head out either to the local shops or to the park at the end of the road. My 3 year old loves the park and would stay there all day if she could! Our road is filled with families with kids at a similar age to mine so it’s nice to catch up, let the kids play and chat to the other parents. My youngest is too little to do much except look cute but it will be great when he’s walking and old enough to join his sister on the swings and slide!
12.00pm – before the midday sun (we live in Australia!), we’ll head home for lunch and both kids might fall asleep in the stroller on the way back. When we get home, I’ll transfer them to their bedrooms to finish napping and this gives me a chance to catch up on reading emails or a few chores. If the kids are having a long nap, I even get to eat my lunch – all of it, while it’s still warm!
1.30pm – the kids are usually awake by now and they’ll eat their lunch. It’s usually sandwiches, fruit and a yogurt for lunch for both of them.
2.00-4.00pm – afternoons are usually spent at home reading books, colouring in and playing. My two children are almost at the age when they can play together but right now that means my 3 year old steals all of the books and toys and my 10 month old gets whatever is rejected. We’re doing a lot to encourage more sharing!

4.00pm – Mr M arrives home from work and my daughter goes crazy – such a Daddy’s girl! Now he’s home, I usually have an hour to myself to check emails, blog and pitch for freelance work.
5.00pm – I start dinner while the kids have time with Daddy. We tend to eat a lot of the same meals during the week, easy and quick to prepare meals like pasta, stir fries and rice.
5.30pm – dinner time! We always sit down together as a family for dinner and catch up on what we’ve been doing that day. I love that our youngest is old enough to sit at the table with us too and he eats the same as we do as we’re doing Baby Led Weaning. A LOT of his food still ends up on the floor but he does a really good job of feeding himself which means we can eat our own dinner too!
6.30pm – the bedtime ritual starts. It’s bath-time, PJs on first for both kids, a bottle of milk, teeth cleaned and then story time. I usually put our baby to bed and Mr M puts our daughter down. I definitely get the best deal as when he’s finished his bottle, our baby tends to just roll over and go to sleep. Oh dear, I bet I’ve jinxed that now! After 2 stories and some nursery rhymes, our daughter finally allows Daddy to leave the room and goes to sleep.

7.00pm – and reeeeelax! A glass or two of wine (not every night, promise) and catching up on our favourite TV shows, blogging or calls with family and friends.

10.00pm – bedtime – although I have insomnia so I’m rarely asleep before midnight. Coupled with that is that my family and friends in the UK are now awake and emailing/messaging me and I hate waiting until the next day to reply! The good thing about living on the other side of the world though is there is always someone to chat to

  4. I love these types of posts - especially when it comes to gaining an insight into how other bloggers manage their time! (Mim, how many day care days do you get?! Am I just very slow, or will it get easier once Pixie is in nursery?!)

    Great post. 😊 xx

    1. I think blogging could be a 24/7 job if you let it right? I'm not sure about Mim but my daughter goes to nursery 2.5 days a week. In that time I have some other freelance gigs and I often use that time to sort out the house and do my life admin. My blogging is normally left for the evenings x
