A Weeks Worth Of Dinners For My 1 Year Old

I love reading meal planning and family dinner blog posts and I get so much inspiration from them. I also love posting random shots of what baby girl is having for her meals on my Instagram feed and I often get people telling me they get inspiration from me which is awesome.

I do put a lot of effort and thought into what we eat as a family. It's complicated let me tell you. I am a vegetarian on a low fat diet. J is a meat eater on a low fat diet. Baby girl is a fussy 13 month old that needs full fat options. I have to spend loads of time meal planning because I prepare three meals every night! I try and be efficient as possible by cooking one meal from scratch each night for one of us, and then freezing batches that can be used later on. It sure is a process but I seem to have a good rotation.

I would love to post our meal plans but that would be far too complicated so I last week I decided to take a photo of baby girl's dinner each night so I could share.

Monday - Crumbed cod, steamed broccoli and sweet potato

Tuesday - Mini vegetable pie, potato mash and tomato salsa (Recipe for these coming next week)

Wednesday - Meatballs, yoghurt & mint sauce and steamed vegetables

Thursday - Butternut squash and spinach lasagne

Friday - Spaghetti bolognese with alphabet shaped pasta, crustless garlic bread and steamed broccoli

Saturday - Fish fingers and steamed vegetables

Sunday - Butternut squash soup and mini vegetable pie

The potion sizes may appear large but she eats with her hands and half of her meals always find their way to the floor!

Let me know if you enjoy these kind of posts. I'm thinking about doing more of these every now and then.

Where do you get your family meal inspiration from?

    1. Haha don't worry. The house work is often sacrificed as I put so much effort into feeding my family good food x

  2. Wow what a great menu! Your child has a really balanced diet and I think it's great that you include such a variety. Some kids won't eat anything unless it's a chicken nugget! Fab post and definitely give me some meal inspiration

    1. Don't get me wrong, my daughter is very fussy and there are parts of these meals she refused but I figure (and hope) if I put variety in front of her it will help her become less fussy lasted in life x

  3. Such great meals, and I love the plates and bowls too! My Lizzy is a fussy eater, she used to eat all the purees I made for her but I think I introduced finger foods too late and she would not eat green vegetables! (although she likes sweetcorn and carrots) Luckily she likes soup, so this is mainly how I get some greens into her diet! I do need to make more effort and make things such as pies and crumbled cod like yours though! Xx

    1. Haha my newest obessesion is toddler plates! Baby Girl is rally fussy. Luckily she loves her vegetables (most days), but I often struggle with getting her to eat meat. I think it's the texture she doesn't like x

  4. This is fantastic, so useful! I really struggle meal planning for my 16 month old, and never know if the portion sizes are ok. I always end up finding something last minute and I don't feel there's enough fruit and veg in his diet. I'd love to see more posts like this for inspiration xx

    1. I often wonder about portion sizes too. She rarely eats everything I've given her, normally refuses at least one element and stops when she's had enough so I keep most of her portions that size but don't force it. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. I'll keep them coming for sure x

  5. I love the variety of meals you're putting in front of baby girl! How does she react to these foods? Do you she's building a range of different tastes? How often do you repeat meals such as the ones you've used this past week? X

    1. It's the weirdest thing. She picks and chooses what she likes and what she doesn't. Some days she can't get enough of a particular food and the next she'll refuse. I just keep offering her everything to try and get her used to everything. I have about 3 weeks worth of meal rotations and I like experimenting and trying new things x

    1. So glad I could offer some inspiration. I have those days too. The beauty of freezing portions is that you can just defrost something, super easy! Will def do some more of these posts x

  7. Lovely varied meal ideas, thank you! When I was looking at the meals I thought to myself "Rory (11mths) would demand way more food than that" then I read that you thought the portions looked big! I often think I overfeed my boys but then they moan until they get more! They definitely have my husbands appetite. Well done cooking 3 separate meals. I find it hard enough making one!
