Review: Shangri-La Hotel Singapore

If you've read this blog in the last few months you would know that we had a month long family holiday to Singapore and Australia. A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post on things to do in Singapore when you only have a small amount of time. Our time in Singapore was for the purpose of a stop over to Australia. We had 3 nights on our inward journey and 2 nights on the way back.

We stayed at Shangri-La Hotel on Orange Grove Road for our first 3 nights.. We had such an amazing stay there I just had to write a review and share bits about our time in all it's amazingness.

The Location
Shangri-La Hotel is about a 30 minute drive from Changi international airport. We were able to easily jump into a metered taxi and it cost about $30 SGD. The hotel itself  is walking distance to Orchard Road. The main shopping strip in Singapore. It's a 5 minute taxi ride to Clarke Quay. 7 mins to Marina Bay (you can easily walk between the two) and 10 minutes in a taxi to Sentosa Island. Singapore's a pretty small city so most things are close by. I love that the location of this hotel has a suburban feel even though everything is so close by.

Checking In
We landed at Changi airport after a 13 hour flight from the UK at 7.00am Singapore time, with very little sleep under our belt and a grumpy 16 month old. Standard check in is 2pm and I had emailed ahead a couple of days before reminding the hotel of our request of a cot and to let them know what time we would be landing crossing my fingers they would be able to accommodate us somehow. After a very quick exit from the airport we arrived at the hotel at 8am. As soon as the taxi pulled up the door men were there to greet us, look after our belongings and made sure  we found our way to the garden tower reception. The check in process itself was a dream after our long journey. We were invited to sit at the desk and there were no other guests about so the service felt very personal. We were offered cool towels and iced tea which went down a treat and were much needed. Much to my surprise the receptionist advised me that our room was ready and the cot was already set up for us which was amazing. This couldn't get any better right? To top it off, the lovely receptionist handed me a beautifully flower/ plant before we were shown to our room. I personally think it's the little touches that takes a great 5 star to one you will never forget.

The Room

We stayed in a deluxe city view room. Walking into the room, we were greeted with a bamboo basket of tea and a plate of fresh fruit - there's those little touches again.

The room was amazing.

It was big enough for us to fit in all our luggage (and believe me we had a lot), have a large baby travel cot up and still feel that we had loads of room. The bed was a super king size was like laying on our own little slice of heaven (not so great for the jet lag, it was very hard to leave it). This was technologically a very modern room from the electronic blinds and shutters to a coffee pod machine.

Inside the grand marble bathroom was twin sinks, a generous section of toiletries, a tub perfect for soaking in and a large glass enclosed shower with a waterfall shower head.

If that wasn't enough when we opened up our blinds we were greeted with a corner balcony that wrapped around the building and was bigger than our backyard at home and fitted out with fabulous outdoor furniture. One side of our view was a distant city view and the other side was green. Being out on this balcony made me feel like I was in my own little slice of paradise.

The Pool
This hotel have mastered the feeling of zen through their grounds, the centre of this being the pool. The pool itself is huge featuring a generously sized baby pool and a fountain feature, perfect for kiddie fun.

There are more than enough deck chairs located around the pool and whilst we were there the area was never very busy allowing us to spread out and still have private family time together. With pool and towel service, as well as cold water and juices located around the pool we felt well looked after.

The pool itself is surrounded by luscious gardens as far as the eye can see and nearby is an amazing waterfall feature. The sound of this alone was enough to make me instantly relax.

The Food
We took the opportunity to leave the hotel and try out the local cuisine at dinner times so I can't talk for the a la cart service, but what I can talk about is the buffet breakfast which we chose as an optional extra when we first booked. The breakfast at Shangri La Singapore is right up there in my rankings for a 5 star buffet and I would highly recommend taking this option to anyone who books. There are endless stations of different food options from traditional western breakfasts, to traditional asian, sweets, savoury, tea stations, juice stations, prosecco for DIY mimosas, breakfast pizzas. You name it, they probably have it.

And oh was it so good! The egg station was my favourite. You can chose to have your eggs cooked any way you want with whatever added extras you want. Who would have thought that scrambled eggs with red onion, mushroom, and spinach could taste so good? They were the best eggs I've ever had in my life and left me wanting to know the secret ingredient.

For The Kids
The facilities were perfectly suitable for our 16 month old. The travel cot was pretty standard and practical enough. We always like to add extra layers to the standard mattress and there was plenty of bedding for us to be able to do it. Baby Girl loved being able to run around our mega balcony and we spent many hours at there as a family. Sadly my baby is not a water baby and wasn't wanting any pool action but it would have been perfect if she did. The staff always made such a fuss of her, making her feel special. When waiting for a taxi one day the doorman dressed in a traditional Tibetan styled uniform gifted Baby Girl a teddy dressed in the exact same attire. She loved it! At breakfast we were given plastic bowls and cutlery perfect for toddler feeding. There is another Shangri-La based in Sentosa that I have a kids club set up and a kids pool with a waterslide so that would be a better option for when she's older.

The Verdict
Our stay at Shangri-La Singapore surpassed our expectations by a million. The staff showed genuine kindness and willingness to help at all times no matter what we needed. The hotel is a little patch of rainforest-like paradise inside a bustling city and thats exactly how we felt during our time there. If you're looking for a hotel that will go above and beyond and envelope you with comfort, kindness and relaxation after a busy day in Singapore then you will love staying here. And if you do, remember the breakfast!! :)

When it comes to the incorporation of a company in the South East Asian nation, the first name that comes to one’s mind is Singapore. This cosmopolitan nation holds an excellent reputation for offering a set of advantages such as an outstanding tax system, flexible immigration policies, ease of doing business, transparent government policies, world-class infrastructure, high quality of life and so on and so forth. The process of Singapore company registration is relatively easy and devoid of cumbersome tasks, which in turn, attract a huge crowd of foreign business investors and entrepreneurs from all across the globe.
