A Day With Me (Eat.Love.Live)

I often get asked, 'How do you find the time to do everything that you do'? My answer is normally 'I don't need a lot of sleep'.

Which is true. I'm a night owl and always seem to have a huge supply of energy once baby girl goes to bed.

The reality is, we have a finely tuned routine that's been in the making for nearly a year. We are finally at a place when I know what baby girl needs at what time of the day and we stick to it like clock work. It means, that most days I get to take care of a very happy baby. Knowing when she is going to go down for her naps means I can be effective with how I utilise it. In saying this, what I squeeze in around baby girl's (aka BG) routine always varies. I can't really say we have a typical day.

It's not easy being a stay at home mum and a work at home mum all rolled into one but I couldn't imagine not being with my princess everyday so we make it work. I decided to take note of one of our days and bring you along for the journey.

Be warned, this post is a long one! I didn't realise how much I squeezed into one day until I had to take note!

7am: BG awakes wanting milk. Darling hubby is already up getting ready for the gym so prepares her milk and feeds her. Sometimes she will go back to sleep after this but today she is full of beans and ready for the day ahead. I'm super lucky that he does the early morning milk feed every day. I love that he is such a hands on dad.

7.30am: Hubby wakes me up and hands BG over to me on the way out to the gym. I had been up late the previous night and I'm super tired so we have a cuddle in bed and I get lot's of wet kisses. My baby is super affectionate. I love it!

8am: We head downstairs and I put her favourite channel on - Baby TV. When the birthday song comes on she goes mad and does lots of claps. She loves it. While she's distracted by the TV I have a quick peek to see what's happening on social media, check out my emails and double check the orders I've received for Little Bump Shop.

8.30am: It's breakfast time for both of us. I prepare BG's muesli and blueberries and today I'm having coffee and toast. It's a little treat from my normal porridge. I probably don't deserve a treat but I am craving carbs! BG can get pretty fussy some dinners and lunches but she always loves her breakfast.

9am: After breakfast we practice her walking. She has been taking some steps here and there. I entice her with one of her favourite teddies. She keeps on taking one step and then throwing herself in a heap. She finds it hilarious.

9.30am: BG starts rubbing her eyes. Time for her first nap. I take her upstairs, put her bedtime song on - groove is in the heart - and rock her for a few minutes before her eyelids get heavy and she nods off to sleep. I head straight to the shower for a super quick wash and get dressed for the day.

10am: I box up the Little Bump Shop orders I need to get out to the post office today. Because BG woke up early she's having an extra long morning nap today, so I make a start on lunch. Today's menu is flat bread and tzatzik dip.

10.45am: The sound of the monitor goes off. BG is awake. I love going to get her after she's been sleeping. I always miss her presence, laughter and cheekiness when she's asleep. We choose her outfit for the day and I dress her. We come downstairs and play. Her toys cover the living room rug and she goes from one to the other exploring.

11.15am: I set up a little play area for BG in the kitchen and finish off the flat breads and dip for lunch. This is going to be a recipe I pop up on the blog so once they are finished I take some snaps that would be worth putting up with the post.

12.00pm: It's lunch time. Firstly, I take a picture of BG lunch to pop on Instagram. I'm trying really hard to encourage baby girl to get her food from her tray to her mouth and not the floor.

12.30pm: Quick tidy up and we head off to town. I'm working on #operation10k which is aiming to have as many days as possible to hit 10,000 steps. This is a really hard task so I make sure that I get out of the house each day, walking wherever we need to go. I live right by a high street so I don't need a car for anything. I head straight to the post office, followed by a bank visit and have a little mooch around the shops watching my steps increase as I go.

2.00pm: Time to get home for baby girl's afternoon nap. She has some milk and is super tired this afternoon so drifts off quickly. Now is my chance to have a 2 hour block to get things done. I fold some washing and put a new load in the machine (such a thankless task). I then do some more social media bits and pieces. I do some marketing planning for Little Bump Shop. I also manage to squeeze in an episode of sex and the city while I'm working away. This is my favourite TV show of all time!

4.00pm: The monitor goes off again. BG is super cuddly after her afternoon nap so we spend some time snuggling upstairs before we head downstairs where we have a mammoth play session. More toy playing and practicing walking. I switch the Sonos on and we dance and sing. At nearly 1 year old she is becoming so much fun.

5.30pm: Time to get dinner ready. I set up another little play corner in the kitchen and keep the tunes going. BG plays very happily and lets me make a sweet potato frittata without too much interruption. I realise this could be a good blog post recipe too so I take some snaps as I go.

6.00pm: Dinner is served. Tonight baby girl and I are eating before Daddy get's home as he wants to head out as soon as he get's back. During some meal times recently I have been struggling with BG trying to throw all her food on the ground, but luckily she likes this one and it ends up in her mouth instead.

6.30pm: Daddy's home. This is one of BG's favourite times of day. She get's so excited. Lot's of squeals and kisses.

6.45pm: We head out to Costco with Daddy to bulk buy nappies and milk powder. It will keep us going for a month at least.

7.45pm: After spending longer than we should going the aisles to research what we may need for BG's upcoming birthday party we finally head home. I'm pretty tired at this point.

8.30pm: As we pull up outside our house I realised I've only done 9,200 steps. I refuse to get so close but not make my 10,000 so I take a quick walk to Sainsbury's to pick up some milk.

9.00pm: Bed time for BG. We like that she goes to bed at this time because it means that we can always have some quality family time as a threesome when Daddy gets home. It's not bath time today as we do it every second day so it's a quick change into her night clothes, milk, brush teeth and bed. She's out like a light.

9.25pm: I let out a sigh. That's me being mummy done for another day. Nearly time to relax but first I have just a few more things to do. I join up to one of my regular blog linkys, read some posts and make some comments and then read and reply to my own blog comments.

9.45pm: Check what Little Bump Shop orders have come in for the day and put some bouquets together. Get them ready to be boxed up for tomorrow mornings post office run.

11.30pm: Sitting on the couch next to hubby who is watching TV. I finish off a blog post I've been working on to be published in the morning. My eyes are tired. I hope I haven't missed any typos!

12.00am: It's time to head to bed and catch up on whats going on with my personal FB timeline. It's a good time to check in with Aussies who are just getting up for the morning. I arrange a Skype date with my little brother for following morning

12.30am: I catch up on my favourite Melbourne Youtubers latest vlog - Jamie and Nikki. They are so cute! They've just announced they are having their first baby. I can't wait to follow their pregnancy. I realise I use too much technology!

1.00am: It's finally time for sleep. Thankfully BG is just as tired as I am and sleeps though the night.

  1. You must be sooo tired. Little ones need lots of attention and it's sort of relentless in a good way! Running a business is hard work as well. You need some 'me' time.

    1. I think that when you keep going it makes it easier. Running a business is certainly hard work, especially in the early stages but it's well worth it! x

  3. Busy day indeed! I find routines flow really well and you just get into a proper routine then they go and change it by not napping as much or similar lol. #TheList

    1. Totally! I'm lucky that baby girl normally does stick to her routine, but the days that she doesn't turns into a bit of a disaster! x

  4. Wow I am tired reading that, that's a busy schedule I am not sure I could cope on that little sleep, but actually your body does get better at it the more you do it. I'm sad my baby has dropped that morning nap now it really used to help with getting things done #thelist

    1. Definitely, I think your body does adjust. It's something I've perfected over the years because even before I was a mum I didn't sleep very much! We're in a happy place right now with a great routine but I think I will struggle when my daughter drops her morning nap! x
