My little girl is exactly three months off two years old. I've written before about the emotions that I feel when facing the reality that my baby is growing up. And let me tell you, it hasn't got any easier. I don't think it ever will.
The silver lining of her growing up is having the privilege to watch her develop every single day. I can't even quite find the right words to describe what watching your mini me, that you have created, grow into a proper little person is like. Lately we have been going through a really exciting stage in Baby Girl's development. She is now talking. A lot!
Her first words seem like such a long time agoand she has been saying words for quite a while now but recently she's been really using words as her main form of communication with us and it's absolutely incredible.
She's not quite got at the point where she's stringing sentences together yet, but she does put two to three words, sometimes four, together at a time. She gets by with using her words to tell us what she wants, how she's feeling or what we need to know.
Baby Girl is generally in a great mood when she wakes up from her sleep and nearly every morning I'm greeted with one of her huge grins and her saying 'Morning'. There's certainly no excuses for getting out of the wrong side of the bed with such a positive, happy start to my day. Then she will always say 'smelly wee wee' and often also bring me a clean nappy (Interpretation: It's time to change my nappy mummy). After she's freshened up, she knows it's breakfast time and it's all about the 'Weety Weety' translation: It's Weetabix time. Once we are ready for the day she's always insisting we go 'Outside'. She loves to get out and about.
She knows our different routines for the different types of days we have and is constantly commentating what we're doing, or what we're seeing. She get's super excited about particular things. 'Flower', 'Umbrella', 'Doggy' (which she pronounces as Daddy), 'Ducks', 'Baby', 'Water', 'Pretty', 'Spoon', 'Bin' to name a few.
I love the way she says certain words. My favourite one at the moment is 'Hewwo' (translation: hello). Whenever she hears the sound of a phone ringing, or if she gets a her hands on a phone, or anything that even remotely resembles a phone, sometimes even her hand to her ear will do she gives her loudest Hewwo. Last week I was so amazed at her imagination. She put her hand to her ear and said 'Hewwo Daddy.....Yes.....Yes ..... Yes ..... Yes..... Bye Bye'. An imaginary conversation at 21 months old. What an incredible little human being.
Let's not forget the words she uses to be assertive. She loves to tell me 'no' when she's not happy about something, or 'more', 'help me' and 'my turn'. She also knows just how to butter me up and uses her perfect manners and a very sweet please particularly when she wants a sweet treat. 'More bar mummy, pwease?'. Luckily her favourite bars are sugar free organix fruit and oat bars. It could be worse. This is the reason I haven't introduced her to chocolate yet!
If I need to be firm with her she knows when she's been out of line. We use time out sometimes and she's very quick to say 'Sowwy' when she knows she's done something wrong.

Her latest favourite is 'bye bye'. No matter if it's just me in the room or a room full of people, she must have it known if she's popping out and her bye bye is often followed by a 'See You Soon'. On the most part she's always back 30 seconds later LOL.
The best thing is that she tells me is she loves me. It's more like 'Ahhhh-You' but I know exactly what it means and each time she says it, it's like the most special I love you I've ever heard and it will melt my heart every. single. time.
Not only is she talking but this girl can sing. She's always singing. The first song we ever heard her sing is Happy Birthday and she's forever wanting to sing it to her loved ones. It goes 'Party to yoooouuu, party to yoooouu' and she inserts whatever family members name she wishes to sing it to. It's often Nanny but she makes sure we all get a fair share. Her favourite nursery rhymes to sing are row row row your boat and heads shoulders knees and toes. She prefers a full production. Tonight she said to J 'row row phone' (translation: play row row row your boat on Spotify). She's not just a nursery rhymes baby, she also has her mummy and daddy's music taste and will sing Purple Rain on command. Ok it may not be the whole song but when she's singing her little heart out to 'Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Purple Rain', I know I'm doing something right in terms of musical influence.
She's always looking for things and calling out 'Are you?' (translation: where are you?). 'Are you shoes?... are you phone?.... are you spoon?..... On the weekend I asked her where she put her sunglasses and we were looking for them together. I eventually gave up and went on to do something else. 5 minutes after she called out 'There is is' and pulled her sunglasses out of nowhere. Me and her daddy were gobsmacked.
Our day ends just as it starts by her knowing our routine and verbalising what we're doing. It's 'yummy' when it's time for her milk and then 'viti' after that when we giver her vitamins. Strangely she loves taking her vitamins. It's then time for 'brushing teeth' and finally 'read book' before we say 'night night'.
Every day brings new words and each day I get better and better at becoming an expert interpreter. J uses my new found skills a lot and I'm often translating what she's saying to him.
I'm writing this post because it's nice to capture certain moments. I know in no time she'll be having full conversations with us and I feel I need to cherish these very special memories at where it all began. That's the whole point of this blog really, and it's lovely.
I would love to hear about the things your little ones said when they first started speaking?

Great post and great photos! Very stylish little girl you have. :) I love when they are just starting to talk. My oldest is almost 4 and my youngest is 13 months so we are not at that stage right now. But I wrote down all my oldest's first words and sentences because it is so fun to look back on and remember.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute "sowwy"!!! I can't wait for Josh to start talking - I bet it just makes that bond even stronger as you have little conversations. Lovely to read xx #coolmumclub
