A Mummy Day Out - Charlotte Street Hotel Afternoon Tea & Aqua Rooftop Bar

On Saturday I had a lady date.

A proper lady date with some of my girlies that I haven't been able to share a cocktail with in a really long time. I booked J in for daddy/ daughter bonding time and head off at 1pm, giving him advanced warning that he would probably be putting baby girl to bed.

I had been in such a rush getting myself ready and baby girl sorted that I forgot to bring a jacket. Thank goodness the sun was shining and I didn't need one! So off I went handbag in tow and heels on (that felt weird) to the overground and onto my journey into Central London.

Before I go on, I just need to say I am really getting into taking photos since I started this blog. At the start of the day I had plans to take some amazing pictures to show you all however I was having to much fun to put too much thought into my shots and when I looked back on them I realised I'd mainly taken photos of my cocktails ha. Sorry about that - will work on that!

We had booked into The Charlotte Street Hotel for Afternoon Tea. I hadn't been there before and was hoping it would be good. I walked through Soho, one of my favourite parts of London and when google maps told me I had reached my destination this gorgeous hotel front opened itself up to me.

Inside the hotel is quirky. Not really to my taste and I wouldn't chose the interior for my home but for an afternoon tea, chats and giggles with the girls it was a nice setting and had character.

I ordered the Bloomsbury tea which was £26. I put in a vegetarian request and a fussy added extra of no avocado. Nothing was a problem and the waitress told me not to apologise and anything I didn't want, I wouldn't get.

To go with our afternoon tea we ordered cocktails. I got the Le Fizz which was a cocktail of vodka, elderflower, lime and soda. They were so good we had two!

I was impressed when afternoon tea came out. There was so much! I got 4 sandwiches and a mini quiche, 2 scones, and 5 mini cakes - strawberry cheesecake, chocolate & raspberry tart, battenberg square, victoria sponge and a red velvet cupcake. I couldn't finish all the sweet things but what I had was delicious. The service at this hotel was excellent and was always with a smile.

The last time I had attempted a catch up with these girls, it was a rushed brunch and I had a whinging baby with me. In the end baby girl started a melt down so I had to hurry off and run home before she screamed the town down. This time it was nice to be able to relax, ditch the baby talk and have a good old gossip.

When we were finished we decided that the day was too young and far too sunny to not be continuing on so we headed to one of my favourite bars in London, Aqua Kyoto.

This photo was taken from www.cntraveller.com

Heading to this bar always marks the start of summer for me. It has the most amazing rooftop terrace and it has traditionally always been the place I go to go hang out when the sun makes it's first weekend appearance for the year. When the sun is shining, the beats are pumping and the place is packed with people in their sun glasses and summer threads you could almost mistake yourself for being somewhere abroad.

We hunted down found a very comfy corner chair, hustled some more of our friends to join us, ordered more cocktails and really enjoyed the rest of our day.

I did check in at home a couple of times but J assured me that everything was under control and I should enjoy myself, so that I did. The hours passed by very quickly and before we knew it the sun was setting. That was our cue to go home.

I walked down Regents Street on my way back and had to take a step back to admire my beautiful surroundings. London is such a beautiful city full of rich architecture, hustle and bustle and fascinating people. I had an I LOVE LONDON moment. Even though I've been here for 5 years, I still get them and I realise how lucky I am to live here.

I came home expecting the house to be turned upside down (am I the only mum that thinks their household can't operate without them?) but I was pleasantly surprised to find the house just as I'd left it, baby girl had eaten all her dinner and gone straight down to bed and J was on the sofa catching up on his sci-fi. I was so exhausted that I head straight to bed.

Baby girl was very good to me and slept through the night, although I wouldn't have minded if she had woken up for a cuddle because as much as I had a really good time, it's the longest time that I had been away from her and I really did miss her.

  4. Ah what an amazing day - how lovely to have some 'time off'! I love the Firmdale Hotels for afternoon tea and went to the Charlotte St Hotel one Christmas. You might prefer the decor at Ham Yard - that is pretty hip! Bar looks great - it has been soon long since I went to a bar in London!

    1. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check out Ham Yard. It's been a long time for me too, nearly 2 years. I do love discovering fab London bars and although I know it's now got to be a rare treat I'm going to try and still make time for it. K x
