A Day With: Apparently Awkward

A Day With: Is a fun series I am running on the blog. I love 'day in the life' style mummy posts. They are fun to read and interesting to see the way different mums manage their days. I think all mummies are superheroes  We all have our own challenges with managing our lives and running our households, but we get through it and that should be celebrated.

If you want to have a nosey at the first posts of this series, here they are:

A Day With: Eat.Love.Live
A Day With: The Moderate Mum
A Day With: Motherhood: The Real Deal

I'm so excited to introduce you to today's guest - Amy from Apparently Awkward. Amy is my favourite expat mummy blogger. Originally from America she's now settled in Oxfordshire with her husband and little boy. I have so many hilariously funny and honest blogger friends and Amy is certainly one of them. Her blog is bound to make me chuckle, nod and agree. Amy doesn't filter her views on motherhood and I love her for it. Amy is also a fellow mumpreneur having recently started up her own gorgeous handmade gift business.

Reading her post made me realise how much more we have in common than being fellow expats and small business owners, there are so many parts of the day I can nod my head and relate. Especially feeling like the day revolves around nap and eating times. I still feel like this 14 months on. Anyone else? Amy and I share the same taste in TV shows too.

14/10/15

8am - Wake up. Yes, really! It's not every day of course but Baby Boy Wonder can really sleep in some days.

8:10am - Grab tablet, check ALL THE SOCIAL MEDIA!

8:15am - He seems content to play in his cot for a bit so just close my eyes for a bit more.

8:16am - Shouts the house down demanding retrieval and a diaper change.

8:30am - Husbandfriend is home (yippee!) so the baby gets to hang with Dad while I go off and get his morning bottle. Only been "all bottle" for 1 month so I still struggle some mornings with the timings and yes, he lets me know.

9:00am - Head downstairs for some pancakes and standing.

9:05am - PLEASE STOP TOUCHING THE TV
9:12am - PLEASE STOP TOUCHING THE TV
9:25am - PLEASE STOP
9:28am - STOP

Yes, we're going to be getting a different TV stand
9:30am - Into the kitchen for a proper breakfast because throwing pancake onto the carpet doesn't really count. We currently love porridge with banana.

10:00am - After a "quick" and "easy" change out of pyjamas (read: terrifying ordeal that involves one or both of us crying from the sheer frustration that is pants) we return to the kitchen so I can do the washing up.

I want to play with everything and in the process
ruin your dream of anything remaining tidy.

11isham - NAP TIME! NAP TIME! NAP TIME! I always think I'm going to be really useful and do something important but:

If they wanted people to be productive they wouldn't
have invented Sky Box Sets. #susan&mikeforever

11:30am - :( Boo, some days we get a MUCH longer nap but today is not that day! Back downstairs for more playing.

12:00pm - Lunch time! Some days it feels like life revolves around nap times and feeding times. You think it won't take up a large portion of your life but it does, oh it does.

12:30-1:30pm - Currently spend quite a bit of the first part of the day in the house. I don't want to wish his babyhood away *but* I am looking forward to him being able to walk so we can use the parks in the area a bit more. So for now it is a lot of: chasing each other, playing with squishy blocks, doing a bit of flash card work (aka rips them out of my hands to chew) throwing pillows at him because he finds it hilarious and letting him putter around a bit on his own. I do hop on to social media to have a nosy and then work on a few blog posts/jot down ideas.

1:40pm - Today's big activity was deciding to a do a long walk at Blenheim palace. Of course just as I was about to put his sweater on I detected the not so subtle aroma...YUP. Off to do a nappy change (again).

2:30pm - We arrived at Blenheim a bit later than expected due to an unforeseen circumstance of having to turn around and get his blanket. Parenting is hard!

2:40-4:00pm - We did the long loop around Blenheim Palace in Woodstock - about 3-4miles. Weather wasn't brilliant but a brisk breeze helped us keep up the pace. The dog wanted to chase *every* single pheasant and eat *every* piece of goose poop so it made for an eventful and disgusting walk!

Jeeves, get me my binkie.
4:40-5:30pm - Right after we get back from Blenheim, Skype with Nana in America! Thank you technology: you make being an expat a little bit easier to handle even when the time difference is a tad annoying.

5:35-6:00pm - Dinner for baby! Today was a very inventive cheese and ham omelette, steamed carrots and brussel sprouts and yogurt for dessert.

6:00-6:15pm - A lot of crazy crawling upstairs (from what I can hear!) as Dad prepares his bath. During this time I'm downstairs preparing dinner AND his bottle. Potatoes! Carrots! Parsnips! Brussels! Get them roasting to go with a lovely steak and onion pie. Not home made. I'm not bloody Betty Crocker.

6:30pm - After the bath and the teeth brushing and the wrangling in jammies, it's downstairs for goodnight kisses from me and to get his bottle. Bedtime! I'm not going into details because I am not willing to jinx anything.

7:00pm - Dinner for us adults. Pie, roasted veg, gravy...yes sometimes you just need a meal like this. With one glass of red wine. Maybe two.

8:00pm-1130pm - We both stay up far too late. I think we are currently being lulled into a false sense of security due to State of Resting That Must Not Be Named (rhymes with shmeeping blue) and lie ins. Tonight we watched Harvest 2015 (haha!), The Apprentice (groan!) and caught up on Masterchef Australia (stomach growls).

11:40pm-12:30isham - YES! REALLY! I know. I'm mad. I'm a night owl. And I love to read. The Husbandfriend will be snoring the minute his head hits the pillow but I just have to read before I sleep. Current book: Abhorsen by Garth Nix.

Repeat ad infinitum.
