Tackling my baby weight - one green smoothie at a time

I have to be honest. I had a little extra padding before I got pregnant. This equipped with the fact that I haven't lost my baby weight 6 months after giving birth makes me realise I need to take some serious action to rectify the situation. By serious action I don't mean the latest fad diet or days of hardcore exercise. Extreme doesn't work for me. Serious action means small healthy changes to my lifestyle that are simple and can be adapted into my every day routine.

I assumed that whilst breastfeeding I would be able to lose weight easily but instead all I've found is that I am always hungry and low in energy. Since I've been weaning and breastfeeding less I am feeling more myself so hopefully things are looking up. Along with consciously making an effort to eat healthy food, I've decided to set myself with two goals.
  1. 30 minutes of exercise every day. Either a workout I can do in my lounge room or a walk with baby girl
  2. Have a green smoothie or juice every day. I'm going to start trying to drink this in the afternoon. I always get hungry in between lunch and dinner so this will both keep me full, give me my goodness and hopefully stop me from eating bad snacks as this is always the time of day when I eat the wrong things.
On the exercise front I am a fan of Jillian Michaels. Her 30 day shred DVD is fab. It is only a 30 minute workout. 3 circuits of 10 minutes and incorporates strength, cardio and abs. Most of the moves incorporate both upper and lower body so it means you are getting double the work out. I also live near the most beautiful park so now the weather's starting to get better there is no excuse not to take baby girl there on the days she won't let me get a home workout in.

My fave green smoothie at the moment is my tropical creation. It's not over complicated with a heap of different fruits and veggies, I sometimes struggle with the flavour of these ones. It's has goodness from the spinach, sweetness from the pineapple to cure my sugar cravings, delicious creaminess from the yogurt and it fills me up nicely. If I closed my eyes I could mistakenly think its a PiƱa Colada..... Well not quite exactly but I have a good imagination and it's been a LONG time between holiday cocktails! I make it with my nutribullet which is so easy. It mixes all my ingredients together in 60 seconds and the clean up is so simple. You can chuck all ingredients together and use any kind of blender though. Here is my recipe. Enjoy!

Tropical Green Smoothie

Ingredients

100g canned pineapple including juice
2 handfuls spinach
2 tablespoons natural Greek yogurt
Aprx 1/2 cup water
Aprx 1/2 cup ice

Method

Simple!
  • Throw all ingredients together in large Nutibullet cup
  • Put lid on, attach and blend for 60 seconds
  • Unscrew cap and voila! I do always put in a separate glass but you can drink straight from the cup to save extra dishes
