A Day With: Motherhood: The Real Deal

A Day With: Is a fun series I am running on the blog. I love 'day in the life' style mummy posts. They are fun to read and interesting to see the way different mums manage their days. I think all mummies are superheroes. We all have our own challenges with managing our lives and running our households, but we get through it and that should be celebrated.

If you want to have a nosey at the first posts of this series, here they are:

A Day With: Eat.Love.Live
A Day With: The Moderate Mum

This week I'm so excited to be featuring the lovely Talya from Motherhood: The Real Deal. I love Talya's blog. Talya is a mum to one gorgeous toddler. Her little girl seems like quite a little character! Talya shares blog posts showing the real truth of motherhood - my favourite kind of mummy blog to read. She shares real stories, gives 'tell it like it is' advice, she's really funny and does a great job at bringing the blogging community together.

I'm super impressed with everything Talya squeezes into her day. I love how she describes dinner with her little one and how she manages a dinner with hubby so they can enjoy some quality husband and wife time. I will definitely be taking some tips away from her!

6.30am - our daughter usually wakes up around this time. I try to remind myself to be thankful that even though it's before 7am, it's no longer 5.30am!!! Sometimes I wake up to her calling for me, sometimes a bit before, or sometimnes to her bashing me over the face. Milk and books in bed until 7am, when we usually get her out of bed by playing 10 in the bed...a long and arduous process for someone who is not yet awake!

7 - 8am - getting up and dressed and generally pratting around which often involves dancing, screaming, crying, reading or if I'm brave enough, cooking breakfast. I might even be lucky enough to squeeze in a shower! Sometimes I'll make breakfast the night before if it's pancake or waffle mix, otherwise it'll be something quick like banana porridge, banana quesadillas (see a theme here?), eggs & fruit etc...As you can tell this is probably my least favourite time of the day. High emotions and low blood sugar and caffeine levels does not for a merry time make.

8.30 - we get ready for the day ahead. On the days she is with me , our daughter watches half an hour of TV at around 9am so i can get the house and ourselves organised and most importantly, fuel myself up on caffeine. Otherwise she is out the door at 8am sharp and off to nursery!

9.30ish - we head out for the morning...a playgroup, dance class, playcafe, swimming, a trip to the park but we never stay at home unless she is sick and I want to go to an early grave...

11.30ish - we head back home for lunch...this is usually a stressful half hour fuelled by manic hunger which I try to offset by dressing up household chores like "doing the washing up" or "hanging up the washing" as fun...which works for now. We usually have something quick and simple like chicken noodles, a toastie, an omelette or tuna pasta with the requisite veggies sneaked in and fruit or yogurt for afters.

12.30pm - wind down time, a herbal tea and book for her as I do a happy dance and look forward to 1pm nap time...when I feverishly blog until the toddler wake up alarm sounds!

2pm - 3pm - sometime in this region, my little one wakes up and we have a snack...breadsticks, some biscuits we've baked or whatever is knocking about. If the weather is reasonable we'll head out again - maybe another trip to the park, an outing on her balance bike, a trip to the shops...

4pm ish - we're usually back home and will do a craft activity/colouring/music until around 5pm when it's TV time and I make her dinner. This is usually something I've already made in the freezer so a meat or fish dish with rice or pasta and veggies. Simple & wholesome. Most meals are picnic style on the floor because I can't handle the battle at the dinner table.

5.30pm - Daddy usually comes home and we have a prat around, then it's bathtime at 6pm with one person doing the bath and the other preparing our dinner.

6.20pm - Without failure it's In The Night Garden or god forbid! along with milk and a snack before heading up to brush teeth, last pees and poos, nappy on, books and songs and sleep at 7pm.

7pm - Mummy & Daddy have dinner and catch up. After which we generally do our own thing for a bit - I may do a bit more blogging, some yoga, or catch up with admin. I get into bed super early - 8.30pm!!! to have a reverse lie-in, good hours read, chill and cuddle with my partner. I usually turn the lights out at 9.30pm as I'm totally knackered!

  4. That is a hell of a day and you have my deep and eternal respect Talya. I'd be sticking my kid in front of the tv by 4pm and telling her to get in the event of an emergency. Changing the subject...what does "have a prat around" mean? I speak American. ; ) Love the blog too, btw! #TwinklyTuesday
